St Albans Chess Club
St Albans Chess Club ("the Club"), including Early Knights Junior Club ("the Early Knights") and the Congress, collects personal data for the purpose of:
- Communicating with players and officials who participate in matches, tournaments and other events
- Communicating with people who have expressed an interest in being informed about activities of the Club
- Entering teams in HCA League and other chess competitions
- Publishing results of chess games and matches on the Club's websites and on the HCA Results website
- Submission of results to the English Chess Federation and to FIDE for inclusion in their rating/grading lists
The Club is affiliated with Hertfordshire Chess Association.
Data Collected
Personal data collected by the Club may include: name, email address, telephone number and postal address. It may also include chess playing strength as published in ECF grading and FIDE rating lists.
For junior members the contact details will be those of the child's parent, carer or guardian. The child's name and age at the start of the academic year (31st August) may also be collected.
Data Security
The database is held securely online with password protection and access limited to officers and members of the Club who need to use the data for the purposes defined above.
Data Retention
The contents of the database will be reviewed regularly (usually at the start of each season) and where an individual has had no association or contact with the Club within the past two years their entry shall be deleted from the main database. However, historical records such as records of competition results and photographs will be retained.
Cookies
The Club websites do not use cookies.
GDPR
The Club's lawful basis for processing personal data is Legitimate Interest as set out in Article 6(1)(f) of GDPR.
The Club upholds the following rights of data subjects:
- The right to be informed
- The right of access
- The right to rectification
- The right to erasure (to be forgotten)
- The right to restrict processing
- The right to data portability
- The right to object
- Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling
Deletion or Correction of Data
You may at any time request that your details are removed from the membership database. Please be aware that this may affect your eligibility to participate in some Club activities.
You may also request that incorrect information held about you is corrected.
Access to Data
Under GDPR you have the right to obtain a copy of the personal data held about you. To obtain this information please contact the Club.
Complaints
If you have any concerns about the way the Club handles your personal data please contact the Club. If you are dissatisfied with the Club's response you may contact the Information Commissioner's Office.
